First time in Detroit & boy did we get a treat! Looking for REAL soul food, this is your spot. Where else will you get turkey chops fried to perfection and cabbage w/ smoked turkey galore??? Somebody's grandma definitely made the sweet potato pie, don't leave without it!

Oh Wow what a fantastic find, open 3 years now in a strip mall on Eureka. Actually never seen the sign hundreds of times driving past it. Marvelous Southern Deep Fried Cornmeal Breaded Catfish OMG, dinner comes with two sides and cornbread muffin. I choose Mac n Cheese with Collar Greens cooked with Smoked Turkey, it's truly delicious sides. I'll be back to try much more, $17 for the dinner a fair price. I drove to a park in Southgate to find a picnic table to enjoy the meal. It's a shame they haven't posted on the Facebook page for over a year, I'm posting the review to Yelp and Google, see photos for full address or check Google. @offthegrille_bbq #offthegrille_bbq #soulfood #catfish #macncheese #collaredgreens #cornmuffins #taylormi #downriverfriendseat

Never usually do reviews but this place deserves it! Food was amazing. And the Kool-aid oh my gosh. I almost drank the entire thing before I got home I ordered the smothered pork chops with Mac and cheese and yams. Everything was well seasoned. Pork chops were tender and juicy, the yams were soft and the Mac and cheese was full of flavor. Hands down best soul food I've had downriver besides the food we make at home lol. I would highly recommend and I will be ordering again. The service was quick and the food was hot when I picked it up

I was starving when I got my food so once it hit my plate I devoured every last bite so thats the reason for no pictures on this review. Good news is I will be returning. I didn't get any main course items this time because I had chicken at home already, but I got greens, macaroni, and candied yams, with corn bread. Everything was very yummy. Soul food is my favorite and this place doesn't disappoint.

I am glad to see a soul food restaurant come to the downriver area. The first time a ordered from this restaurant, I got the perch dinner with, mac n cheese and candied yams. I liked the fish and as another reviewer said the candied mac n cheese was a little sweet but I didn't mind. i didn't care for the candied yams though. The next time I tried the catfish with mac n cheese and string beans. The string beans tasted like the top fell off of pepper shaker and spilled on the string beans...too much pepper, burning my palate while I'm eating. I had to drink a lot of water behind this meal. I tried the rice with gravy another time, same thing too much pepper in gravy. Gravy shouldn't be hot like a lot of black pepper or hot pepper has been poured on it. Another thing that gave me pause was the fact they give you silverware that is not wrapped individually. Being that they are carry out only, they should provide individually wrapped for sanitary reasons, especially since we have been going through the pandemic and all are trying to stay safe. My suggestion would be work on the seasoning of their sides. They have a great variety. Have someone taste test or something to get it right. I would like to try the cabbage and greens, but can't take that hot burning pepper taste again.

Hi yall.(in my southern drawl) I got anf found SOUL, in Romulus! This is a good small place right off the most raggedy, busted up road Eureka, some may remember the restaurant Chicken MAN that is where this place OFF THE GRILL is located. This is a family ran restaurant since 2020(minus covid of course) and the menu has expanded to show the various types of soul and tastes that we southern have. From the staples like Mac and cheese, greens, ribs, and Kool -And..yes. yes. I said KOOL AID! To turkey chops, lbchops, baked beans, and pasta salad. ALL HOMEMADE FROM SCRATCH, not a can or processed. With every meal you get a meat, 2 sides and a drink. There are also a large carte items. Let's not forget dessert. That too is homemade, from banana pudding,to peach cobbler and of course cake! But no pecan pie.sad face. I like the fact that they offer more than pork and have a lot of vegetarian options. Please stop by and order whatever you want because it's all Delicious! Door dash and masks are offered as well.
